Studio Update

Just a quick update to how things are going.

I have eight works on the go, each at a similar stage. Their foundations are strong, all have hanging supports built in in the form of L-brackets so they hang outward from the wall and flat. Each work has 2x skirting simulacra framing the top edge and bottom edge of the paintings. They will be hung portrait, this will help mimic the skirting board and ceiling scotia which exist on most interior walls, (mostly houses built pre 2010 as ceiling scotia isn't as popular in new builds when compared with negative detailing). The paintings exist in two sets of four, to play with the idea of a four walled room. Each playing with the colours of an interior design scheme for a singular room with elements of bad painting from a professional decorators point of view. Cracking, pitting, bad coverage and incorrect roller technique build the paintings surface. These layers I will continue to build over the next three weeks before the end of year installation.

I am also thinking of cutting into the Gib in a way which mimics how a light switch is installed or the repair of a punched wall. In this way I am trying to bring into the works' more signifiers of commercial paint-work, while aestheticising the surface in a beautiful way, (from an interior designers point of view), using rules like the 60-30-10 rule which indicates that the space should have 60% one colour, 30% another a colour and 10% a final colour in a pre determined scheme.

I am feeling positive about the works progress. There is plenty to do for sure, but I am on track to where I planned to be at this point. My catalouge essay has had positive feedback and I have finished the book design for printing. Now I am just focusing on making the content as best as it can be. The feedback is it is flowing nicely, and when I asked whether it needed more content the feedback was that it could potentially but it isn't strictly needed. So the plan is to read over it and add more about colour in terms of interior design rules, and potentially add some detail on K.O. colours and Karen Walker colours. The plan is to print the book late this week or early next week.

The Broad Strokes One of the first things to notice about my work is the use of industrial paint. Industrial paints (or commercial house paints) are not created equal. There are numerous different typ
